Chapter 6: When Will We Meet Again?

New York, the Big Apple, one of the largest cities on earth where millions of people live and work, but I was only interested in one person, and she was nowhere near New York. When I left Amy's apartment she mentioned to call her from New York because she had always wanted to visit, but never got the chance.

I landed in New York late in the evening, and by the time I got into my hotel room, it was well past midnight, but "she did say call her, and there is a time difference, so … why not!" I picked up the phone and dialed her apartment in Waco. "Hello?" she answered the phone rather quickly, "Hey, this is Mike, you'll never guess what I'm staring at?"

"Mike!" she screamed with excitement. "Hey, this isn't such a bad sign" I thought. Then I described what I was looking at outside my window. The lights, the taxi cabs, the people all hustling about at such a late hour. It seemed as though The Big Apple never sleeped, which was inevitably going to happen to me.

Just hearing her voice lifted me up and gave me such a high I thought life couldn't get any better than this, but then we hung up, and it was over, and much like the high experienced from many substances, my love high left me equally down and depressed.

The night was long and filled with much tossing and turning anticipating meeting the Giffords. On the set of the infomercial I was given the highly impressive and skilled job of holding the cue cards for my dad, Frank Gifford (the former god of Monday Night Football), and his beautiful wife, Kathie Lee.

About two hours had passed and I still had not officially met the Giffords. I wanted to make the meeting just so I could shake the hand of the man I watched every Monday night with my dad and brother. Finally my turn came to make my introduction, but it came very curiously, and not at all how I expected it to.

"Michael, get over here!" Kathie Lee said looking at me. "Wow," I thought to myself, "She must already know who I am." So I quickly got up from my crouched position under camera 2, and suddenly noticed I was not walking correctly! My leg, because of the position I was in, had fallen asleep! The incredibly famous Kathie Lee and Frank Gifford were now watching a very gangly, awekward drunken like stagger as I approached the couch they were both sitting on.

Luckily they chose not to comment on my weirdness, which made me feel slightly better, until I heard what Kathie Lee wanted to talk to me about!

"So who is this Amy?" she asked. It was almost impossible to imagine what was about to happen. Suddenly I am listening to Frank and Kathie Lee repeat my story I had so closely guarded for three years! It was difficult to pull myself together because I had obviously never listened to someone else talk about my feelings and situation with Amy before. Only myself, and … oh NO … My father! He had lasted all of two hours before he broke my secret bond to never, ever tell anyone about Amy and I. So who does he decide to leak the story to, Frank Gifford, a man who is watched by millions of people every Monday night. My narcisism took over and actually believed that my story would be so interesting to Frank that he would talk about it to guys who just want to wach football! Of course Frank was the least of my troubles, because his wife, Kathie Lee, was the cohost of a hugely popular morning talk show. Where she loves to share personal stories!

I was horrified, until Frank grabbed me by the shoulder and pulled me down on the couch next to him. I couldn't believe what was happening. He started sharing how Kathie Lee and him started off their relationship, and is was very similar to how my relationship with Amy was starting! Kathie Lee got so excited about the possibilities between Amy and I, especially the love she sensed from me about Amy, that she promised to sing at our wedding if things worked out!

I had to contain myself dramatcially in order not to call Amy immediately and announce to her that Kathie Lee Gifford would be singing at our wedding! But then I realized that it might be a good idea to first start dating Amy, before I made that kind of announcement. Though I never guessed what would happen next.

My eyes are enthralled with your artful bliss.
Whose glory shall I defy with a kiss?

You feel so close, but reality is far!
That I must be contained just how we are …
