Q: I am a divorced woman in a very promising relationship but I struggle with the fear of being hurt again. How do you go about putting past insecurities and hurts to rest once and for all? How do you go about trusting fully again?
A: You probably will not like my initial answer. But love is risky. Since we can not control people, there is always the chance of being disappointed. However, just because loving others can be risky that does not mean that we live in fear.
The real issue is where you look for your source of life. Picture yourself as a giant love tank. Only as God fills you up are you able to pour into the lives of others. God is your source. And others get your overflow. First John 4:18 says, "Perfect love drives out fear." God's love is perfect and takes away fear. You do not produce one ounce of love. You can only receive it. Keep your heart open to God.
You can trust God. Keep your trust in Him and give those around you the overflow. Place the expectations of healing hurts and insecurities on God, not your "promising relationship."
