Question of the Week
Week of 05/15/07

Q: I am a virgin and getting married in 3 months to the man of my dreams. What should I to prepare for sex on my honeymoon?

A: 1. Prepare your Wedding to Work for You, Not Against You.

The wedding has the potential of sabotaging your honeymoon. Don't let your Aunt Sue or Uncle Bob determine what time you have your wedding. They will try to guilt you and shame you into it. This wedding is about you. Set the wedding time at a time that works for you. This whole have a wedding at 2:00, take pictures for three hours, then go and be with your family until midnight is hard. You hang out all night away with family and friends and then stumble into the hotel room 5 hours before your plane leaves for the Caribbean. You will not be fresh for sex!

2. Prepare Your Mind and Body.

Learn and educate yourself through great Christian books. My friend, Dr. Kevin Leman, has written a wonderful book called Sheet Music. That book talks turkey about sex. There are also exercises you can do to prepare for your wedding night. Talk to your doctor. Get an examination. Talk about birth control.

Sex is a great gift from God meant to be shared between a husband and a wife. You have done it right by waiting and I am proud of you. Sex is a learned skill. Open up the lines of communication with your spouse. Good communication permits progress.

Blessings!
