Question of the Week
Week of 07/02/07

Q: My wife and I have been married just less than one year. Just recently my wife started a new job. It has now come up that there will be some travel involved. My issue is that she is traveling with her male boss. I am feeling unusually jealous about her being alone for so much time with another man. She's never really given me any reason to distrust her, but I cannot stop feeling this way. How can I deal with this?

A: My wife Norma is very sensitive to this issue in our marriage. We have safeguards in place with how I meet with or counsel members of the opposite sex. For instance, I spend most of my days writing out of my home office. I do not have one-on-one meetings with women in my home alone. Others must be present.

Even if your wife has done nothing in the past to show she is untrustworthy, your concerns need to be expressed. Sharing your feelings and concerns with your wife is important. Do it with gentleness and respect. The goal is to bring honor and security to your marriage.

Blessings!
