Inside every person, busily tending to the needs of life and others is a heart that is empty and needy.

God knows that. He knows that even though we offer others a shoulder to cry on, we need to be filled and comforted. He knows that while we are careful to build our loved ones up, we also need to be affirmed.

And so He comes to us, longing to have an intimate relationship with us as a parent who loves a child. The Bible tells us that when we accept Christ, we receive a spirit of sonship that causes us to cry, "Abba" (Romans 8:15, NIV). The Greek word abba is a warm, affectionate term that means "daddy."

Some of us never experienced the love and affection of nurturing parents. The good news of the gospel is that our heavenly Father can fill the empty cup of our hearts in a supernatural way. He will not only meet our need, but also fill our hearts to overflowing.

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! - 1 John 3:1
