Healing Your Broken Heart
Week of 10/24/05
The first thing Nancy had to face when she came home each night was whether her mother would be at the door with her coat on. If she was, it meant that her father was in such an angry mood that her mother, her brothers, and Nancy would have to go out and drive around until her dad was so drunk he'd passed out.
The children ate dinner and did their homework in the dim light of their car's backseat. They were never able to have friends come home to their house. They dreaded every holiday that promoted drinking to get in the "holiday spirit," because the "spirits" that grabbed her father caused his actions to be right from the pit.
Nancy grew up with a broken heart, shattered by anger, alcohol, and indifference. Yet, she learned in high school of someone who could do the impossible.
Like a broken bottle, Nancy didn't even know where all the pieces of her broken heart lay. But when she came to know Jesus Christ, He gently began a mending process that has left her more secure, loved and accepted than she ever thought possible.
God specializes in "healing the brokenhearted." Others can help us, but Jesus can heal our hearts.
"He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted." Isaiah 61:1
