The Gift of High Value
Week of 12/19/05
Nineteen-year-old Diane was born with a handicap. Her left arm never developed beyond the elbow. In her nineteen years, she faced her share of obstacles from physical barriers, to stares, to fears about dating.
But Diane also lives with a tremendous advantage. From the day she was born, she has received a precious and powerful gift from her parents. They have given her the security of knowing she is highly valued and unconditionally accepted.
"My parents didn't try to shelter me from the fact that I was different," Diane told us. "They have been very realistic. But I always knew, and they have told me over and over again, that I am their greatest claim to fame. Whether I was trying out for softball or learning to drive, they have been my biggest fans. They have prayed for me and thought the best, even when I've pouted and gotten angry with God because of my handicap. Without question, my parents deserve credit for helping me accomplish the things I have."
You give a powerful gift by making sure someone knows how much they are valued. "Esteem them very highly in love." - 1 Thess. 5:13
